Brenda Ann Hayes Steward was born on January 24, 1954, to Agnes Mays and Robert Bryant in Daytona Beach, Florida. Brenda graduated from Mainland High School (Daytona Beach), class of 1972, and received her BS Degree at Florida Memorial College (Miami, Florida) and master’s degree at Nova Southeastern along with a Specialist in Urban Education from Florida Atlantic University. (She educated children from Miami to Atlanta). Serving as an educator for over 25 years in Miami Dade Public Schools, Volusia County Schools, and Douglasville Public Schools. Brenda was known for her love of education. She was gifted at ensuring all children had access to quality education. She was most passionate about the art of teaching reading and writing to emerging learners. She was known for her ability to develop and improve students’ confidence in reading comprehension. She was a lifelong educator and believed education was they key to open the doors to success.
Mother Brenda Steward was a member of Love Fellowship Christian Church (Douglasville, Ga) where she served as Vice President of Mother’s Ministry (2014-2019). After relocating to Palm Coast, Florida in 2019, she joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was an active member; serving on several committees.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 34 years Cornell L. Steward Sr., children: Sheria Griffin (Antoine) Tallahassee, FL., Cornell L. Steward, Jr., Douglasville, GA., Brian Steward Douglasville, GA; adopted children Deandra Steward, Lavada Steward, Shaderian Steward, Makayla Steward, Alexis Steward, and Mark Steward; grandchildren Tamir Walker, Anasia Griffin, Savanna Griffin, Antoine Griffin, III, along with a host of sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends, too numerous to name.
She was preceded in death by her son, Archie W. Davis, has several brothers and sister along with both parents Agnes Mays and Robert Bryant.
