Cheryl Lynn Gillis, 66, Daytona Beach, a Mental Health Counselor passed away on July 14, 2021.
Cheryl Lynn Gillis, a beautiful woman of virtue was born on November 26, 1954 in Daytona Beach, FL to the late Leon Gillis and Doretha Gillis. Cheryl graduated from Mainland Senior High School with the Class of 1972. She continued her education; attending Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a focus on Correctional Psychology.
She was a free spirit who enjoyed life to the fullest. Always willing to be the designated driver to whatever destination her friends wanted to travel to. She loved to talk and you would often find her engaging in lengthy conversations with everyone she came in contact with. As talkative as she was her listening skills were impeccable. She was definitely the go to person when you needed someone to listen or give you an unbiased opinion. She enjoyed singing, playing cards, spending time with her family whom she loved unconditionally and her friends.
Cheryl held various positions. She is a former Daytona Beach Police Officer, Crisis Counselor with the Department of Children and Families, Case Manager/Assessment Specialist with North/South Florida Human Services, Human Resource Director with Watkins Motor Lines, Community Educator with the Sickle Cell Disease Association and Case Manager with Northwest Behavioral Health Services.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her Father Leon Gillis II. Mother Doretha Gillis. Sisters: Mary Anita Louise Buchanan, Stephanie and Amber Gillis. Brothers: Leon, Jimmy, Derrick “Uncle Ricky” and Ivan Gillis
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Erikka L.R. Nicholson; sons Cameron L. Sheffield and Donald G. Heffner. Grandson Cameron Sheffield Jr; Granddaughters Camarae and Camiya Sheffield. Sisters-N-Law: Lena Gillis (Derrick) and Carolyn Gillis (Leon) Goddaughter Lydia Reid. Godson Leonnard Davis. Adopted daughters: Rebecca Sarouen, Brianna Matts, Jasmine Ponder, Shelly Spencer, Lisa Tellis, Jennifer Cord, Miesha Agee, Tipphany Peterson, Adrienne Askew and Carlotta Walker. Her Closest Devoted Friends whom she loved dearly: Patricia Horton, Cynthia Curinton -James, Barbara Johnson-Giddens, Phyliss Holmes, Rosa Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
