When I entered this earth on July 12, 1945, little did I know I would live such a fulfilled and beautiful life. I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, the oldest of four siblings: Maxi Hudson of Florida, Richard Fernandes (deceased), and John Russell of Florida. In my early years, 1 helped my mother, Zulmira Rheddick (deceased), care for my younger siblings while she worked, learning early the meaning of responsibility, compassion, and family.
I attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Dorchester High School. After high school, I pursued a career in nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LN), dedicating my life to caring for others.
Throughout the years, I worked at various hospitals and nursing facilities while raising my beloved children: Marcus Haley Jr. (Kimberly) of Florida, Roy Haley of Massachusetts, Steven Haley of Florida, and Alicia Felder (Anthony Sr.) of Massachusetts. My children were my greatest treasures and the center of my world.
In 1978, 1made one of the most important decisions of my life when I dedicated my life to God and became a faithful member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Brockton, Massachusetts. My faith became the foundation of my life and guided me in all that I did.
While working as an LN at Bridgewater State Prison, I met the love of my life, Alfred J.
Gomes Jr. Together, we built a life rooted in faith, love, service, and community. Much of my life on earth was centered around my church, my family, and helping others. I opened my home and heart to many, including veterans and foster children, and found joy in caring for those around me.
I was never one to sit still. I was a free spirit, creative, entrepreneurial, and full of life. I enjoyed making jewelry, preparing taxes, working as a travel agent, and spending time with family and friends. I was a social butterfly who loved people deeply and made everyone feel welcome.
In my later years, Alfred J. and I shared many wonderful cruises together. I loved being on the water, enjoying the beauty of life, and letting someone else do the cooking for a change.
I was abundantly blessed to see my family grow through generations. I leave behind 12 cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Mitchell, Darnell, Bryana, Chantel, Vanessa, Valencia, Justin, Areana, Tynia, Steven Jr., and Anthony Jr. I was further blessed with beloved great-grandchildren: Marquis, Zoe, Mariah, Zamyra, Niko, and Zalaya.
To all my nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family - I love you. Smile when you think of me.
I lived my life fully, and when the Lord called me home, I was ready — ready to see my mother, my brother, my husband, and to rest in His presence.
Though my earthly journey has ended, my love remains in the hearts of all who knew me. I leave behind a legacy of faith, compassion, strength, and unconditional love that will continue to guide my family for generations to come.
Celebrate me not only with sorrow, but with laughter, music, family gatherings, and acts of kindness toward others - because that is how I lived my life.
God called me home, but my spirit will forever sail beside those I love.
