Johnny Mayo Jr., 47, of Daytona Beach; a Master Hair Stylist and Funeral Attendant for Pinello Funeral Home; answered our Almighty God's call and departed this life for eternal rest.
Johnny Mayo Jr., a strikingly extraordinary man, was born on November 30, 1973, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to the late Johnnie Mayo Sr. and Lucinda M. Mayo. As a youngster Johnny loved to go to church and praise the Lord. He would pull out his mother’s pots and use them as drums to worship and sing to the Lord. He attended Volusia County Public Schools, graduating from Spruce Creek High School with the Class of 1991. Johnny continued his education; attending Daytona Beauty School receiving his Cosmetology License and he studied Mass Communications at Bethune Cookman College, now known as Bethune Cookman University, where he sang in the Gospel Choir. As a member of the Gospel Choir, Johnny had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. to sing at President Bill Clinton’s Inauguration. Johnny sang with several church choirs, community events, funerals and even in restaurants to total strangers. He enjoyed skating, swimming, sing and designing creative hairstyles. Johnny was the perfect social butterfly who never met a stranger and was always the life of every social gathering he attended. Johnny was a former employee of AdventHealth Hospital and J.C. Penney’s. At the time of his passing, he was a Master Stylist and founder/owner of Johnny’s Hair Werks and a funeral attendant at Pinello Funeral Home. Johnny is preceded in death by his sisters: Alphenia Mitchell and Wanda Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother Lucinda M. Mayo; siblings: Oral R. Mayo, Lucinda L. Mayo, Christopher A. Mayo (Deatra), Versie L. Mayo (Valerie), and Barbara M. Williams (De’Anthony). After the passing of Johnny’s aunt, Merlinda M. Wilson, he gained six additional siblings: Charles Wilson, Grant Wilson, Patricia Wilson, Naomi Wilson, Cynthia Wright (Irvin) and Peter Wilson (Victoria); his Willie Drive family: Norma Lee and family, Nelson Hill and family and Clint Smith and family; dedicated friends: Willie London Willis, Fred Gamble, Kim Davis, Tracy Garvin, Sheanett Range, Edwin Simmons, Felissa Matthew, Crystal Lewis, Triece Durden and Tracy Smith; God-children: Crystal Hall and Frank “Dooda” McCloud Jr.; God-sister Annette Hill Carroll; God-brother Isaac Hill; Pinello Funeral Home Staff; Daytona Deliverance Church of God Family and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
