Joyce E. Costner

Joyce Minichiello Costner left us to rest in peace on Sunday, August 1st. She fought a long battle with multiple health issues and is now in a better place. Joyce was born on May 5, 1939 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She began her professional career in the health care industry and earned several certifications including Surgical Technology from DBCC. Eventually, Joyce continued her lifelong desire to help others by working in the Volusia County school system for 17 years as a Teacher’s Aide. During retirement, Joyce was a very active volunteer in several capacities for the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Joyce was married to Robert Wilford Costner on December 4, 1965. He was active duty U.S. Army and upon completion of his military service, they moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1970.  Following the passing of her husband Wil in 2010, Joyce was committed to spending time with her family and volunteering at St. Paul’s church. At St. Paul’s she always looked forward to preparing Italian cookies for the international festival and playing Ms. Claus at the Christmas bazaar. Joyce also served in several ministries at the church and assisted with mass and funeral services. Visiting with and sharing in her grandchildren’s accomplishments was one of Joyce’s favorite activities. She was always kept in touch with all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

She is survived by her 3 children Keith (Debora), Tammy, and Robin. Her seven grandchildren: Brittany, Patrick, Taylor, Savanna, Sara, Braden and Lucas. Joyce had 2 great grandchildren, Dylan and Fallon.  She is additionally survived by her 3 brothers: Frank (Claudette), David (Pat), and Anthony (Claudia).  She was predeceased by her sister, Carol. She will be missed and remembered by all. 

The family will receive friends and loved ones during a visitation Thursday, August 5th from 6pm-8pm at Pinello Funeral Home, 1036 Derbyshire Rd., Daytona Beach FL.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, August 6th at 1:00pm at the Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, 317 Mullally St., Daytona Beach.  Joyce will be buried alongside her late husband at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
