Kathy Diane May

Kathy Diane May was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 4, 1960, to parents Lloyd K. May and Nadine Henry May, who both preceded her in death.  She moved to Florida at age 17 and finished school at Mainland High School.  She made her career in the hospitality industry of Daytona Beach, before retiring to devote herself to raising her family.  As a result, she became a mother figure and confidant to many of the young people in her community who flocked to her.   She had a listening ear with open arms and was a safe haven to those to who sought her out for comfort, strength, and a home away from home. Momma Kathy will always be remembered for her generous heart and spirit, as well as a big smile and laugh to help ease the troubles of the day.  

Known by family and close friends as Kat Katty, a nickname given to her by her brother Jeffery, Kathy had a warm and humorous personality.  She was an excellent card player and enjoyed cooking, reading, listening to music and dancing, solving crosswords and word search puzzles, playing horseshoes, watching the soap operas and many of the early talk show programs. However, her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. In her latter days, Kathy accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and had begun to develop a closer relationship with Him before she succumbed to her illness.

Our dear Kathy leaves behind the love of her life, Eddie Howard McCante, nine children: Eric (Whitney) May, Edward (Erica) May, Eddie Steven (Theresa) May, Ernest (Justine) McCante, Katherine McCante, Natalie (Mojo) May, Eugene McCante, Krystal (Darrin) McCante, Erin (Jasmine) McCante; 16 grandchildren: Janniya, Deondre, Jamahry, Edward (EJ), Izaiah, Eriyonna, Edden, Eric (SJ), Lamar, Eden, LaDiamond, Emir, Kamora, Eriyen, Darrin Jr., Ma’Kari;  two great grandchildren: Kayson and India and four Godchildren: Steven Rankins, Missy Wardlaw, Jana Utter, and Trayvon Hickson; sisters: Lisa May-Allen, Brenda May-Alexander, Erica May; brothers: Lloyd ‘Kenny’ May,  Larry (Sharon) May, Mitchell (Monica) May, David (Debbie) May, Brian (Barbara) May, Adam Jeffery (Tomeka) Mays, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who loved her immensely.
